Berkeley, California’s Keith McMillen Instruments (KMI) has a solid reputation for innovation in an industry sometimes known for releasing products that are often just another variation on a common design. At the 2015 NAMM Show, Keith McMillen Instruments has introduced the K-Mix – described as a ‘next generation audio interface and programmable mixer’. The KMI K-Mix is a genre-blurring device. It’s a powerful control surface, like many of the company’s previous devices. But it’s also a hardware mixer and an 8 in/10 out audio interface.
After gaining renown for their attractively priced, minimal and portable touch panel controllers, this year sees Keith McMillen getting altogether more serious with the launch of the K-Mix.
This is a very neat looking thing, with three different tricks up it’s sleeve; a pro-quality USB audio interface with Keith’s own design µPre preamps, a fully programmable mixer with flexible routing and per-channel DSP which can function without a computer and a control surface, designed from the ground up to command any DAW!
Matt Hettich gives us a first look at the Keith McMillen K-MIX 8 in 10 out Audio Interface Programmable Mixer.

For a compact MIDI/CV controller, the QuNexus reaches for superlatives both in build quality and flexibility. Decidedly not your average mini-keyboard, the QuNexus integrates with more gear before 6 a.m. than most MIDI products do all day.
QuNexus has earned a place at the very top of the micro-keyboard rankings. The superb accuracy and feel of the rubber pads is second-to-none among its competitors.
QuNexus is well-suited to anyone wanting a unique input that they can easily carry around. It’s perfectly playable, and small and light… for many musicians, it will be a must-buy.
Currently the only pad controller on the market that can pass three input parameters at once. Very affordable. Communicates via OSC or MIDI over USB. Compatible with accessories like mic clips and stands. A lot of fun if you know what you’re doing.
Keith McMillen’s idiosyncratic controllers go from strength to strength — and in this case do so with a spectacular blaze of colour… QuNeo is an impressive piece of design.
It’s nice to find something that’s so revolutionary, powerful and unique at an affordable price. 10/10 Stars.
