The Algorithm is the stage name of French musician and producer Rémi Gallego.  We caught up with him in Cologne to talk about what he’s been up to lately.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you’re up to.
At the moment I am seated on a chair 🙂 but I also do concerts, soundtracks, new tracks and mixes. A lot of things, really, but I won’t complain!

You now live in Cologne but you are french, was there a specific reason that made you decide to move to Germany?
I have decided to move closer to John Sprich (my manager) to get work done more efficiently. The geographical location is also very interesting; I can easily travel to any part of the world without any hassle.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
It sounds like some prog metal created by a computer virus that lives in a Tron movie!

Which artist or band really inspired you lately?
I saw a band called Architects, in Lyon a few days ago, it was dope!

Could you describe your live set-up and how you have integrated QuNexus and QuNeo in your current rig?
I use an APC40, QuNeo, QuNexus, Ableton Live and a LTD SC-607D. I mainly use QuNeo because of the pad quality and QuNexus as my main midi keyboard.

Do you use the MIDI controllers the same way in the studio as you do in a live situation?
I use them mainly live but because they are very portable it is really easy to plug/unplug them so I also use them in studio when I need to.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in performing live?
A bit of advice, especially for electronic musicians: in playing “live” there is the word “live”. Be a musician before being a DJ 🙂

What are you working on at the moment?
Even more concerts and new tracks. I am currently working on a new album that should come out in 2016 and organizing a mad tour but I will of course also have the time to relax on the beach!
