Announcing the Winners of the KMI QuNeo Video Contest!

1st Place - Lewis Keller, "QVC01"

"No sequencing or clips or quantization. But I kind of like sloppy. Triggering samples, sythns, arpeggiators and delays. Mostly custom Max4Live synths and samplers tuned to a just intonation scale from a Ben Johnston string quartet. Every pad has some X/Y modulation happening and most have subtle pressure things going on too. Just starting to imagine the QuNeo possibilities. Each pad can be like it's own little world."

2nd Place - Jason Brown

"I produced the music in Ableton Live and Logic 9 using one of my QuNeo, then broke the song into instrument groups and song sections arranged in Session mode as a mega-set. I then programmed 56 MIDI output tracks with 10 clips on each track (yep, that's 560 MIDI clips) to control all of the lights on 2 QuNeos. I set up a series of follow actions that trigger the lights to change at 4, 8, or 16 bars.

One QuNeo (my right hand) is being used mainly as a clip launcher while the other is mainly for FX (3 FX Macros with a wide variety of FX, also 8 instances of Sugar Bytes' awesome Effectrix) controlled by note on and pressure info. I also programmed a couple of virtual scratch trax I can ad-lib over the beat with. I am also dropping samples, whooshes, vocal snippets and filter sweeps while triggering different song parts on the fly. I am using the Ableton preset which I modified to get a little more out of, and two custom presets to control everything else. I have also created a video-trigger/FX controller config that I didn't show due to time restraints and copyright stuff (movie clips, visuals ,etc.), and I even have a custom preset built on one of my QuNeo that I use to control aspects of Photoshop CS5, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Flash, iTunes, and even Safari.

These 2 little magic tablets have replaced 7 controllers and where I used to always be running out of knobs, sliders, pedals and buttons to assign, now I am constantly trying to think of how I can possibly ever use all that I have now. Thank you for this awesome product. I look forward to more cool toys. Shot live with a Nikon D3200, edited with Final Cut Pro X, I recorded the performance in Ableton as I was playing and synced it to the video for better sound, and I shot the B-roll footage before the performance to showcase the lights and the 80+ track Ableton session."

3rd Place - Andrew Hintzen aka Taconip, "Swimming Lessons (remix)"

"Made with a Quneo and Ableton Live. The 16 pads are all mapped to a drum rack with one shot samples, the exception being the corner pad that is triggering a looped sample with the sample start being mapped to the long slider, allowing me to "travel" through the sample almost granularly. Two of the pads are latched so I could map their x-location to their pan without it jumping back to the center when I remove my finger. The vertical sliders control volume of different tracks, and the horizontal sliders control effect sends for a grain delay and reverb. Additionally, on the reverb slider, pressure is mapped to send the reverb into a feedback loop."
